The right interface.
For the actual task.

Optical communication probes for authorized meter testing, calibration, commissioning and field service. Start with your meter, host and software—not the connector alone.

The options below are interface families, not confirmed SKUs. Exact configuration, documentation and availability are reviewed for your application.

Meter to probe to host connection conceptA meter optical port connects through a probe to a USB host, serial test system or wireless application. Every part of the setup must be checked together. 0000.00 USB HOSTRS232 SYSTEMBLE / SPP APP EXACT METEROPTICAL PROBEMETER + INTERFACE + SOFTWARE

USB-A optical probe

A wired connection to consider for laboratory work, production systems and computers with USB-A ports.

Typical discussion
Bench testing · Calibration · Engineering diagnostics
Confirm before sampling
Host OS, USB bridge and driver, port enumeration, software and cable requirements.

Share the exact meter model and optical standard, communication settings, computer and OS version, and the application that will open the interface. Where a USB-to-serial bridge is used, confirm the chipset, required driver and expected COM-port behavior for that configuration.

INTERFACE CONCEPT / Connector shape does not establish host support.

USB-C connection options

For USB-C hosts, first establish whether the proposed setup is a native USB-C probe or USB-A probe plus adapter.

Typical discussion
USB-C laptops · Tablet setups · Mobile applications

Native connector vs adapter, host USB/OTG support, driver or application access and actual meter test.
View selection requirements

A USB-C connector is not proof of a native USB-C implementation or mobile compatibility. Provide the exact host model, OS version, adapter details if used, and app. Native USB-C configuration and availability must be confirmed separately; an adapter-based option will be identified as such.

03 / SERIAL SYSTEMSRS232

INTERFACE CONCEPT / Connector and pinout require confirmation.

RS232 optical probe

A serial-interface option for existing test benches, industrial equipment and systems that require RS232.

Typical discussion
Test system integration · Existing serial infrastructure
Confirm before sampling
Connector, pinout, signal levels, power arrangement and serial communication settings.
View selection requirements

Share the equipment interface document, DB9 pin assignment if applicable, required RS232 levels and probe power source. Confirm baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits and any flow-control needs. RS232, TTL serial and RS485 are not interchangeable; specify the actual electrical interface.

Wireless optical probe to mobile host concept with BLE and SPP as distinct optionsWIRELESS PROBEBLE ≠ SPP
INTERFACE CONCEPT / Wireless profile and host application are separate choices.

Bluetooth optical probe options

For mobile field work and application integration. BLE and Classic Bluetooth SPP must be reviewed as distinct configurations.

Typical discussion
Mobile servicing · Handheld integration · Application development
Confirm before sampling
BLE or SPP profile, host/app support, interface documentation, power and destination-market requirements.
View selection requirements

For BLE, request the relevant GATT service and characteristic definitions, UUIDs, data framing and connection behavior. For SPP, confirm serial-profile support on the exact host and OS. Neither profile establishes universal Android, iOS or desktop compatibility. Review security, battery information and any applicable wireless or transport documentation for the exact configuration.

03 / From selection to evidence

A successful connection
is a complete setup.

An optical probe provides the local communication link. Meter protocol, permissions and host software still determine what an authorized user can do.

Where your meter uses IEC 62056-21 or a DLMS/COSEM workflow, specify the actual optical standard, communication mode and software requirements. A standard name alone is not a compatibility result.

01

Identify the actual meter

Brand, exact model, label and optical-port photo. Include the authorized task and known protocol settings.

02

Define the host and software

Computer, tablet or test equipment; OS and version; application; required connector and communication profile.

03

Test a sample and record the result

Validate on your own meter and host. Keep the configuration and test logs before considering project quantities.

04 / Selection questions

Before you choose.

Can you confirm compatibility from the meter brand?

No. We need the exact model, optical standard, communication settings and host software. Supplier information can help shortlist a setup; the sample must still be tested on the actual meter.

Is a USB-C probe always native USB-C?

No. A proposed USB-C connection may use a native USB-C probe or a USB-A probe with an adapter. We will distinguish the two arrangements and confirm configuration and availability before sampling.

Will any Bluetooth app work with the wireless option?

No. BLE and SPP use different integration approaches. The exact host OS, app, supported profile and interface documentation must match the proposed probe configuration.

Can the probe replace AMI communications or unlock meter functions?

It is a tool for direct local communication, not a replacement for large-scale remote AMI data collection. It does not grant permission, bypass access controls or establish support for specific meter operations. Use is limited to authorized workflows with suitable software and permissions.
